I was recently inspired by a post from BitRebels by Richard Darell with this Steampunk Horse sculpture named: Trojan Horse III by Willie Bester at the Robert Bowman Gallery, Londonfrom London. {photo Trey Ratcliff}

(Thanks to Ingred C for tracking down the artist for me!)

It reminded me how much the horse has inspired art and artists over the centuries, and steampunk enthusiasts are no exception. I’ve put together a short list of some of my favorite pieces, both 2D and 3D, for your enjoyment.

Kim Graham’s Digitigrade leg extensions are steel contraptions that add 14 inches of height to the wearer as well as the illusion of walking like a horse. These digitigrade leg extensions are part of an elaborate satyr costume from October 2009 Seattle Steampunk Convention.

    Thanks for these! I’ve seen Willie Bester’s horse and Andrew Chase’s but the rest are new (and marvelous!)

    Those steampunk horses are awesome! The level of detail, particularly on the first two, is truly impressive.
